Cold Spell

What's up with the weather? I think this is the earliest it has been this cold since I moved here. I heard there were snow flurries a few times! I wonder if we'll have a white Christmas?

Any news that anyone wants to share?

if things continue this way i believe winter this year will make up for the winters we have had for the past 4-5 years, and who knows even a white christmas!!!

I heard that a hunter was found dead out at Hat Creek. Does anyone have any details? I hope it wasn't someone local!

Last white Christmas here was 1969. We have had snow once or twice before Thanksgiving in the last 50-some years. About a year and a half after an unusually hot summer, there is a bad winter--according to my "science" buddies. I have pictures of snow piled high around town. Maybe again?!?

I don't think that's right. I clearly remember visiting my parents here in the 90's, maybe the Christmas of 93. Also, I've only been in this house for 11 years and I can remember at least one Christmas where we walked to my parents house in the snow for Christmas eve dinner. There are more white Christmas's I'm sure, these are just the ones that pop out in my mind.

Now, maybe you're talking about it actually snowing on Christmas Day and not there being snow on the ground from Christmas Eve or a couple of days earlier. That may well be the case. But if the ground's white, then it's a white Christmas in my book. :)

Either way, I'm sure hoping for snow this year. We are long overdue!

Oops! I left out part of my sentence by accident when I posted above. Sorry.

What I meant to say was "I clearly remember visiting my parents here in the 90's, maybe the Christmas of 93, and there was snow on the ground.

I hope is was someone not from here so we do not feel the loss. Let's not worry about his wife and children in Fairfax County.

Fitting right in Brookneal Blogger.

Anonymous,

Really, don't be stupid. I'm sure his family is grieving. I'm not underscoring their loss.
My hope that it wasn't someone local is because the people here would end up grieving, which affects the community. It's the same way that I hope none of our local boys are killed when I hear of the war in Iraq. I don't want anyone killed, but I really don't want our local soldiers killed.

Soldiers in Iraq? What are you talking about? You asked about the hunter killed near Hat Creek. How does your ill-mannered comment turn towards our soldiers. Don't be stupid, just explain your original comment without adding something else.

Leave it to lcf to contradict comments. My father was buried on Christmas Eve 1969. It snowed the next day. I was married in 1990 and have visited Brookneal every Christmas--never in the snow. We had an icy Christmas Eve one year, but I have never come home in snow on Christmas Day.

Good grief! What is your problem?? I don't think I insulted you with what I said so why are you being such a snit? Your comment to me was juvenile and clearly uncalled for. All I said was I didn't "think" that was right.

A grown up would have had a "discussion" on the matter rather than resorting to put downs as you did.

Sorry, but I still clearly remember snow on those dates. I don't live IN Brookneal, I live in Naruna. It snowed at my house (and my parents house) on Christmas or Christmas Eve...IN NARUNA. Maybe it didn't snow IN Brookneal. I don't know and I refuse to argue with someone who has the type of attitude you have.

If you want to get your panties all in a bunch over it, go ahead. Not my problem! Get over yourself already.

In 1987 it snowed about 18 inches in and around Brookneal. I know. I was here. I work VDOT. The wind blew hard and caused drifts up to 4ft. deep. This was 3 days after Xmas. It had already snowed about an inch and a half on Christmas day. And he was local. He was an American. Take a world view.

Well, at least I know I'm not going completely crazy! It has snowed since 1969. lol

Perhaps Mr. Adams (anonymous) would like to rethink his position. ;)

Okay, here is the original topic from the blogger;

"What's up with the weather? I think this is the earliest it has been this cold since I moved here. I heard there were snow flurries a few times! I wonder if we'll have a white Christmas?"

How on earth do you get from this simple question, to chewing everybody's ass out over whether this is the earliest it has been cold, or wondering if we'll have a white Christmas?

Right now this topic has turned "Hot", and if this playground crap keeps going on we'll have a "Black" Christmas! (you school children will give each other a black eye over the weather history of Brookneal)

Blogger, please start a new topic, or gets these cry-babies a pacifier!

Then you must have been too hung over to realize that white fluffy stuff was snow and not nose powder.
I was here in 1999 and there was snow on the ground on Christmas day. I have a picture of me in front of my sister's house, wearing a sweatshirt I got Christmas morning, and there is snow all over the ground. It also snowed after Christmas and through the first of January because there were ten snow days used by the school that year and my niece about went nuts from it. My sister has only been back here for 9 years and she's seen snow on Christmas day too, so you're statement is way off.

Oh look, in 2005 it was snowing before Christmas. http://www.wpcva.com/articles/2005/12/07/altavista/news/news01.txt

Doesn't take many brain cells to figure out it was cold enough for snow in 2005.

My my...I haven't been on here in a long time and look what I come back too!

It'll take me half the night to catch up, but I can see not much has changed in little old Brookneal. lol

Trojan Mouse, blibbet, and lcf are all right. It has snowed on Christmas since 1969. Anonymous, I don't know what kind of drugs you've been doing, but that white powder falling from the sky isn't nose candy! lol Just thought you should know that! ;)

I realize you (anonymous) are probably of the opinion that everyone should just take your word for things, but unfortunately Brookneal is not full of sheeple, as you would like to believe. Yes, many of us have minds of our own.

Perhaps next time you could accompany me to the Emerald city and ask the wizard for a brain. ;)

And I'm not sure what that snarkey comment to lcf was all about, but I didn't see anything antagonizing about her original statement. She simply pointed out that she remembered snow.

Oh, and jack frost, I have an extra pacifier around here leftover from my kids. You're welcomed to it since you seem to be the biggest whiner of them all!

Seriously! Are you that dense that you can't comprehend someone's use of a simile? The BB explained himself perfectly. Probably everyone but you understood what he meant. Ahh, but you just wanted to pick a fight. So pick away, I haven't had a good fight in a while!

As for the original comment from BB, I think we all do it, all the time. I have, many times, heard sirens and commented that I hoped it wasn't someone I knew. It doesn't mean that I wish ill will on anyone, just that you worry about those you know.

Get a grip anonymous, or take a laxative! Either way, you'll feel better!

But then her brains would be all over the place.

By the way, let me say that I read the story on wsls (and wset the next day) about the hunter who died. How sad! He fell out of a tree stand and his gun went off. In all seriousness, my heart goes out to his family!

Did you all see the story about the man who killed his wife and a Gladys man who were in the car with him? What a tragedy!

My thoughts are with the families of all of these victims!

Bahahaha! Perhaps the wizard could help her with that too! ;)

Anonymous, you really are stupid! And I saw it coming.

And before you start whining, get in line with Jack Frost for a pacifier. Seems like you could use one too!

Hello Dorothy Gale,

Nice to confirm! A stupid female sexiest!

He, not she.

hey you spelled that wrong num nuts! lol

i am glad the elections are finally over so we can get back to what is really important...snow!!

On a lighter note, is everyone planning on going to the Christmas parade? This seems to be one of the few things that this community enjoys. I know the Chamber struggles to put on a good event with very limited funds.

Num nuts?

Nice diction, ....head!
No better than I, are you?
Try adding a "b", I'll eliminate the "i".

Dumb Ass!

Anonymous said...

Anonymous i believe i could understand your jibberish better if you take the pacifier out of your mouth, and your dialect out of the gutter. And by the way straight out of the dictionary:
"Numnuts or num-nuts is a slang term that is used to depict someone who is a constant source of trouble. Usually an individual who screws up, or constant makes mistakes. Someone who botches a job, event, or situation." Wanna try again num nuts!

Anonymous said...

Also if you remove the "i" it is still spelled wrong!

Okay,

Come on people. Let's not confirm the rumors that Brookneal people are racist, ill, speaking morons.

I'm starting a new topic, so please drop this one.

thank you for stopping these childish rants

My apologies BB. I thought my comment about remembering snow on Christmas was innocent enough, apparently I was wrong. :(

Since I seem to be a polarizing figure to some, I think I will take a break from posting and/or visiting this board for a while.

I had planned on posting this earlier (before I read all these comments) for those interested in a bit of trivial info about Christmas snow around here. I emailed Matt Ferguson at WSET to ask when the last time it snowed on Christmas Day and Christmas Eve was. He sent me dates for Christmas Day but not for Christmas Eve. The following is the email I received:

___________________________________
Laurie,

We did some checking... & from the National Weather Service in Blacksburg -- below is the official Christmas snowfall data.

CHRISTMAS DAY SNOWFALL:

Lynchburg
1993 Trace
1981 2.9"
1969 9.9"

Roanoke
2002 0.1"
1969 14.6"

Danville
1976 1.0"

Blacksburg
2003 Trace
2002 0.1"
1962 6.0"

*Keep in mind snow data only goes back through the 1960s.

Hope this helps,
Matt Ferguson

Maybe we'll see some snow this Christmas. I hope everyone has a happy and blessed Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas!

Laurie,

You definitly aren't the problem. Seems that the anonymous crowd is emboldened by their anonimity. They should realize I track all isps that visit here. I know where they are from, and what their motivations are.
Thanks for the post about the snow, pity WSET doesn't pay more attention to Brookneal.

Thanks Mike & BB. I'm not leaving though, just taking a break. Probably need to spend a little more time doing other things since it's the holiday season and all. Just tired of the nastiness from the anonymous folks. Guess it's easy to hide behind a fake name and insult others, bet they wouldn't do it to anyone's face.
