A violent and disturbing week

This week's Union Star was filled with some disturbing stuff. We had a domestic shooting, a robbery that then had the perpetrator waving a gun at the woman's house, some drunk drivers and other criminals. Is there something in the water this week? Or is it just a freaky ending to what has been a downer year for most people?

And what has happened with getting a new town manager? We saw the ads, but haven't heard anything else.

Neither have some of us on the council.

Is there some type of time limit that this search is supposed to have? Have there been any responses to the adds?

Melrose,

There have been plenty of responses. There are people interested in making Brookneal a better, more efficiently run, place.

It's just that some of us are never told what is going on. We get no information, notices or memos. We're supposed to have a committee looking at this. I specifically asked to be on the committee at one of the meetings, and I've never been contacted.

Is there something that the town can do? Do you know if the committee was actually formed and you were ignored? Are there any procedures that can be taken to force their hand?

The town can make a difference by electing people that are willing to work with the entire council.
I have no idea if the committee was formed because I've received absolutely no feedback about it from anyone.

There is no doubt that even though this is a seven member council there are only 3 members that are appraised of most of the stuff going on. The rest of us are left in the dark until we either throw a fit or something goes wrong that has to be addressed.

The way I look at it is that iff only three people are getting the information and making decisions behind the scenes that the rest of us don't know about, then they can take all the blame when something goes wrong.

Was anyone at the meeting tonite at the community building?
If so what did you think?
Also heard that the manager (a man) from the Union Star was there instead of the reporter. What's up with that??

The meeting Tue. night was to inform the property owners about the Facade grant, etc.
The architect, Mrs. Frazier was supposed to be on hand to answer questions as well as Scott the planner (or whatever his title is).

Problem was, the meeting was advertised in the Union Star the same day as the meeting.
*See page 3 under Community Events.
Its the first item about Property Owner Information.

Don't you love those spur of the moment announcements and behind the scene decisions.......custom designed for the elite!

Heard there's a new reporter at the newspaper now.

"Heard there's a new reporter at the newspaper now."

YES Virginia, there is a Santa Clause!

Now maybe we'll see some whole reporting as opposed to half reporting.
I just hope they print EVERYTHING that's said and done at the Meetings, and correctly (without dictation from the Mayor, etc.)

Well, times are bad but I think we are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.
