Town meeting

Just got back in to town in time to almost be washed into the Staunton River. Where did this rain come from?

Any reports on the town meeting? Are we any closer to getting the manager issue resolved?

Looks like we have a new reporter, so maybe we'll get some good information from now on.

I agree. I did a read through of the online version and it looked good. It's nice to see the meetings reported clearly and concisely!

I heard the previous reporter threw an absolute fit when she was "let go". Looks like her connections to the mayor didn't take precendence over her poor writing.

I thought the meeting was well covered, with a lot more of the specific comments by council members appearing.

The last thing taxpaying citizens want to hear is word on the "street" about town business.
They'd rather hear straight talk as it unfolded at the meeting, and to have it printed in the paper correctly and in its entirety.
Anything short of this is unacceptable.

I applaud the Star for their decision to reinstate this paper's original values and scope.

Wasn't there supposed to be a planning and finance meeting tonight? How did it go?

I was unable to attend the F & P meeting but I have spoken to people that have. The bulk of the meeting was determining the actual job description and requirements.

I was told that the new reporter was there, so we should get an accurate description of what happened in the paper.

What's this that I read in the paper Mr. Hailey thinks he's going to run for the council again in two years? Is he crazy? If he plans on doing that he better get a job and quit mooching off of the welfare system. He also needs to take a vow of celibacy so he can avoid the temptation of smacking around another woman between now and then

The Union Star really has good reading material in it this week (last week too). Every story on the front page was written by the new reporter. Every story didn't come from another paper. I can't wait for next weeks paper to come out. I am starting to enjoy reading the Union Star again.

I like the new gal reporter so far. She has already made a positive impact on the Star. The photos of the Christmas parade and the articles these last 2 issues were nice to see and the order of importance of the photos/articles was taken into consideration as best I can tell. The last girl put Herman Ginther getting the Citizen of the Year Award on page 8 with a 1 X 1 photo while someone who grew a BIG VEGGIE got page 1 with a 1/4 page pic! What was the rationale at work there? She even got his name wrong in the article after his passing, calling him Herman "Guthrie". GEEEEZ! He OWNED the paper once for goodness sake!
I'm looking forward to much more heads-up reporting and a much better paper all around. She could use more help from those in place though. Some of them aren't very experienced. Hey, maybe she could teach them a thing or two?!?
