Summer is over

Looks like summer has already headed south. It's very cold in the mornings and the days are getting shorter fast. Doesn't look like much has changed since we got a new town manager. I don't expect miracles, but I did expect to see some work done on the derelict buildings owned by council members, and it's still easy to spot a town employee using the town equipment to work on his own property.

In personal news: My family has undergone some changes. I'm officially a husband now after getting married at my wife's grandparents' farm in northern Virginia. We're also in the process of adopting her two nieces, who have been living with us for the past year. Life is changing and getting better.

Congratulations! I hope you're enjoying married life!

Can't say I'm too impressed with any "changes", they seem very small. I haven't seen any changes in the previous AAATM's behavior.

I love the fall. The cool nights are great for going to the river!

I'm going to miss the big tree by the church, shame to see the old giant gone.

Best wishes and congratulations on the adoption!

Things are so nice in the fall here. I wonder if people that have lived here their whole lives appreciate it. I know the fall out west is much hotter and drier.

We have baby horses, bring the girls by to visit!

Hello!

I just wanted to weigh in on the Town Manager here. "Buster" came to our Lions Club Meeting on Thursday night and spoke about his new position and his own personal history.

I very much enjoyed his visit. I was impressed by his excitement and enthusiasm for new ideas.
Two things he opened his talk with, I wondered about afterward.
He said he wanted to (paraphrasing here)catch Town Council's vision and help them achieve it.

Red flag...I would have preferred that he LISTEN to Town Council and then put together a plan that would give strong recommendation for growth and advancement based on his expertise and knowledge.

Too often Town Council stalls out due to conflicting opinion. Hats off to them that they get as much done as they do, conmsidering their reputation for tumultous working relationships.

I will say that I did appreciate his vast and varied experiences in such areas as grant writing, education and fund raising. These will surely help us in Brookneal.
I also liked that he looks you in the eye when speaking and seems very down to earth. He is also quite personable. But watch out! He's a YANKEE! We all know about THEM! hehehe
Time will tell...as it always does.
